MPR has introduced a mobile ultrasonic propeller (product library supply) defect detection system that does not require manual inspection.
It is well known that in the process of casting a ship's propeller, small holes and small cracks are often generated inside the material, so if not required, these small holes and cracks may cause the propeller to malfunction. However, it is difficult to obtain consistent and reproducible results by manually testing these defects.
MPR's automatic wave propeller defect detection system consists of a small, lightweight measurement system that is used in conjunction with a mobile scanning device. The system also includes all hardware and software (product library supply) components for instrument control, motion control, data acquisition, fast A-, B- and C-scan imaging, evaluation and documentation tools.
The system is capable of recording large amounts of digital ultrasonic inspection data in real time. At the site, the system is currently capable of scanning inspections up to 900 x 450 mm and up to 200 mm/sec.
The motion detection system can be placed freely on the propeller or attached to the propeller vertically and horizontally by the suction cup.
MPR's mobile ultrasonic propeller defect inspection system allows on-site inspections of foundries, propeller manufacturers and ships when they are parked in dry docks.
According to reports, the use of this system can save detection time and easier and more reliable understanding of test results.
MPR will present the inspection system at the Maritime Conference in Hamburg this year.
