Polystyrene foam material has significant energy saving effect

A Swiss construction company recently realized the goal of modern buildings that are both comfortable and energy-efficient. The company has just completed the first composite residential project in Switzerland based on the German eco-efficiency constant-temperature standard, including BASF's new expandable polystyrene Neopor wall thermal insulation foam, plus other measures. Residential buildings are 90% more energy efficient than traditional houses. The project consists of three duplex buildings and four villa buildings, all built according to the certified standard of a heated house. Constant temperature homes rely heavily on the use of efficient insulation to reduce heat loss. The stone walls of the constant-temperature room are coated with Neopor foam. Unlike conventional insulation, the far-infrared absorber and reflector contained in the silver grey Neopor reduce the thermal conductivity of the foam. So Neopor insulation board is 20% thinner than traditional expanded polystyrene board, but the same thermal insulation performance. For example, 1 square meter of 10 cm thick Neopor insulation board can save 1200 liters of heating crude oil in 50 years. The 15-cm-thick stone wall of the duplex building is coated with a 30-cm-thick Neopor coating, while the more compact villa building is only 24 cm thick.
