Recently, Siemens received an order to supply diesel-electric propulsion systems and other equipment for the four 65,000-ton semi-submersible deck cargo ships (SSDCV).

It is understood that the ship will deliver the new ship by the end of 2017. The shipowner is a Singapore customer. According to Siemens, the diesel-electric system it supplies has a power management feature that will reduce fuel costs by up to 15% compared to conventional propulsion systems.

Each propulsion system will include an integrated drive system with four 4000 kW low voltage Simotics motors and four low voltage Sinamics drives and other corresponding transformers. In addition, Siemens will also supply ballast pump systems.

Siemens also supplies 6980 kW main generator sets, medium voltage switchboards, power management systems, frequency converters and transformers, a controllable pitch propeller, rudder and a bow thruster and a stern thruster for each ship.
