The Mediterranean fruit fly is one of the most devastating agricultural pests in the world. It specializes in harming fruits and vegetables. It is known as the “number one killer of fruits and vegetables” and is a quarantine pest that is prohibited from entering China. The fruit fly monitoring results in recent years show that there is no record of the distribution and damage of Mediterranean fruit fly in China, but the first-line ports have repeatedly intercepted Mediterranean fruit flies from fruit and vegetables imported into China. This proves that harmful species such as the Mediterranean fruit fly can be transmitted by containers and other transportation tools over long distances. It should cause the inspection and quarantine departments to be highly vigilant and valued, and increase the quarantine work of imported containers and other transportation tools from the affected area to prevent quarantine. The invasion of alien pests will protect our ecological security.
