Akzo Nobel 45 Million Euro Ningbo New Plant

On November 18, Akzo Nobel officially announced in Ningbo Chemical Industry Park that it plans to invest 45 million euros in a diversified base in Ningbo to establish a new dicumyl peroxide (DCP) plant to meet the growing market demand locally and globally. This is the Akzo Nobel's 30th factory in China. It is planned to start construction in 2012 and put into production in mid-2014.

DCP is widely used as a crosslinker in a variety of polymers, such as shoe soles, cable insulation, building insulation, and the like. The new plant announced to be built will increase the annual production capacity of AkzoNobel's functional chemicals DCP by 30% to 25,000 tons, and can be expanded to 35,000 tons/year as market demand increases.

At the same time that this investment was announced, another new plant for the production of organic peroxides was opened at the Ningbo Diversified Base in AkzoNobel. At present, AkzoNobel has a total investment of 370 million euros in a diversified base in Ningbo. It mainly produces chelates, ethylene amines and ethylene oxide products. Akzo Nobel's Rob Frohn, a member of the management committee responsible for the specialty chemicals business, said: “We have met the needs of our customers by expanding our production scale and improving our production facilities. We plan to generate 20 billion euros in sales worldwide by 2015. Sales in the Chinese market will reach 20 billion yuan (about 3 billion U.S. dollars)."
