Following the research and development of the domestic production of PTA (pure terephthalic acid) complete sets of technologies, the Yangzi Petrochemical Research Institute further studied various effective ways to optimize the operation of PTA devices and reduce production costs. After more than a year of hard work, recently, the trial of a new PX (paraxylene) oxidation reactor experimental device developed by the institute has been successful, laying a good foundation for the development of new PTA technology with independent intellectual property rights.
Oxidation reactor is the core equipment of PTA process. Many famous chemical companies in the world have their own patented technologies. They have multiple protected intellectual property rights and extremely high patent barriers, and their catalysts, reaction conditions, equipment structures, etc. Technical details are covered by foreign patents. To this end, on the basis of realizing the localization of the PTA package technology, the Yangzi Petrochemical Research Institute has conducted intensive and detailed research, boldly learnt from the loop reactors used in the biological field, and cooperated with Tsinghua University to develop PX oxidation that can be used in the PTA process. The new loop reactor can effectively improve the reaction efficiency, reduce energy consumption and operating costs, simplify the production process, and reduce investment in fixed equipment.
The project was established in 2005. It recently completed the installation of main equipment and supporting pipelines, and conducted airtight tests, cold water and hot water running tests. After the reactor temperature, liquid level, and other control indicators met the test requirements, the scientific research personnel carried out trials for commissioning. After the intermittent test and continuous test, the operation of the test device finally succeeded, laying the foundation for the next phase of the simulation test.
